PROJECTS

Medical Clinics

The Medical clinics were the original project that brought us to Honduras to help the people. They appreciate greatly our efforts to improve their health.  The tiny towns of Puerto Grande and Moropocay are in the mountains above Pespire, Honduras.  Dr. Ronald David, Dr. Susan Pillsbury David and Dr. Adolfo Moreno examine over a hundred residents of these communities on each day they conduct a medical clinic in the village... Dental Clinics

The people of Moropocay and Puerto Grande are in desperate need of dental attention.  Dr. Alex Moreno, his wife, Dra. Hortenzia Valladares, and Dr. Leonard Jensen provided that attention in January 2009.  The dental team works under very primitive conditions in Puerto Grande and Moropocay.  The only dental treatment they can render is to extract diseased teeth.  Our plans are to upgrade the facilities so that the densists can perform "drill and fill" dentistry... Construction Projects

We have already completed several construction projects at the two communities.  The construction team has worked on construction projects in the villages of Puerto Grande and Moropocay during our visits in 2008, 2009 and 2010.  In 2008 the concrete block building which will eventually become the Sunday School Building was painted and lights were installed.  This building presently serves as a residence for the Pastor, his wife and 3 children... Water Project

Our medical team repeatedly treats water borne illnesses and infections that would not have occurred or spread if soap and clean water were available for bathing. Literacy Improvement Project

In past years we have used a VacationBible School program to occupy the children who attend the medical and dental clinics with their parents. In 2010 This program was elevated to a new level of improving reading skills.Dr. Seonhee Cho, Boo Elmoreand a guide, Stephanie Erezo played games and read stories to the children. Their responses to the stories and games helped the children immensely in their reading capability.Dr. Cho is a professor in the Education Department at CommonwealthUniversity in Richmond,Virginia. She designed a workbook to teach the children beginning vocabulary words. Dr. Cho now has information about the baseline literacy level of children in Morocopay   and Puerto Grande. The development of a comprehensive literacy improvement program is a key element of KHISH activities in the future.
